Colorado man arrested on 47 counts of cockfighting

A Weld County man is facing 47 counts of cockfighting along with a slew of other charges after deputies found evidence of a rooster fighting ring this weekend.

Deputies responded to a home off of Weld County Road 96 near Briggsdale, where they recovered 47 live roosters and fighting paraphernalia Saturday.

The homeowner, Rafael Gonzalez, 59, was arrested for the 47 counts of animal fighting, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and cruelty to animals.

One rooster was found injured and all were seized and taken to a local veterinary hospital, according to the Weld County Sheriffs’ Office Facebook page. (PHOTOS)

Gonzalez is being held in the Weld County North Jail Complex without bond.
