Colorado Springs man arrested for shooting witness to another shooting

A 25-year-old man who was already in jail picked up an additional charge of attempted murder this week after Colorado Springs police linked him to shooting a witness of another shooting in February.

Colorado Springs police say the shooting happened around 11 p.m. on Feb. 18 in the area of Union Blvd. and Willamette Street. ( MAP )

The victim says she saw a disturbance outside of a store where one person shot at another. The shooter then followed the victim to her car on Iowa Street and shot her in the face while she was seated.

Escamilla was identified as the shooter by detectives, according to a news release. He was found with a .380 handgun during an arrest for criminal trespassing on Feb. 19. Investigators also found a stolen truck connected to the first shooting just a block away from where Escamilla was arrested.

Escamilla was still being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center while police investigated the shooting. An arrest warrant for attempted murder was obtained on March 26, and Escamilla was officially arrested the next day.

The victim’s current condition isn’t known, but she did survive.
