Navy to honor Air Force Academy graduate who died in jet crash

The Naval Air Station Oceana will hold a memorial service on March 30 at 10 a.m. for Lt. Cmdr. James Brice Johnson and Lt. Caleb King, two naval aviators who were killed in a Navy jet crash off Key West.

Lt. Cmdr. James Brice Johnson was a 2007 graduate of the AFA and one of the aviators from squadron VFA-213 killed in a training mission on March 14 when his F/A-18F Super Hornet crashed.

According to the Navy Times, Johnson’s funeral was held at the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church on March 23, and the service was followed by a “missing man” formation flyover at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

King was laid to rest the following day at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery near Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Officials say the incident is still under investigation.
