Crash sends trooper flying on icy highway in Utah

A Utah state trooper broke several bones but is in good spirits after a dramatic crash Sunday that was caught on dash camera.

Sgt. Cade Brenchley was investigating a crash on a very icy Highway 89/91 in Sardine Canyon when he was hit from behind by a runaway car.

Brenchley went flying into the car he was investigating, and several people immediately pulled over to help. Brenchley was taken to the hospital and hat several broken ribs and a broken scapula.

Brenchley is the 11th trooper in Utah to be hit this year — the state saw 10 troopers hit in all of 2017.

Utah DPS said Brenchley is doing fine and even joked about missing a college assignment
