Weather alert day – 3/26/18

TODAY: We will start the morning off with areas of fog (especially north near Denver) and some sunshine. This will be replaced by clouds this afternoon and the chance for a spotty shower or storm as early as 2-3 PM. By the second half of the day, a cold front and area of low pressure moves in. This will increase snow chances, mainly after the evening commute. I believe this starts as a rain snow mix in places near the Palmer Divide and Teller County. This will then transition to snow by tonight. Winter weather advisories are in place for northern El Paso County, Teller County and the Sangres and the Wets. Winter Storm Warnings are out for the Sangres and the Wets at elevations over 10,000 feet.

TONIGHT: Snow will be moderate to heavy at times through the overnight. You might even hear a rumble or two of thunder. Wind gusts into the 30s could create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Best opportunities of seeing higher snow accumulations will be in the higher terrain through Teller County (3-6″), mountain cities and along the Palmer Divide (2-4″). The Sangres and the Wets will see the most snow of all (6-8+”). Places there over 10,000 feet will likely end up with places of 12″+. Colorado Springs and Canon City will likely see 1-3″ on grassy areas. Pueblo will end up with 1-2″ on grassy surfaces. Snowy roads will likely be contained to mountain cities where temperatures have been cooler in recent weeks.

EXTENDED: Another weak system moves in Wednesday and Thursday which brings chances for a few spotty showers. Very light accumulations look possible. We dry things out behind that and warm up slightly into Easter Weekend. Easter Sunday could bring a few showers but it is still early.
