Live fire training caused the Carson Midway fire

The live fire training on Fort Carson has been determined as the cause of the Carson Midway fire.

Fort Carson announced the cause of the fire Monday. The live fire training started March 16 and burned roughly 400 acres on post and 2,900 acres off post. Aviation training ignited the fire on Range 155.

It took 7 days for emergency crews to fully extinguish the fire that caused hundreds of people to evacuate.

Many are angry that despite heavy winds, Fort Carson leaders still allowed soldiers to train with live ammo. “All I can say is what the hell were they thinking?” said Herb Rideout, a resident in the area. “It’s like, all I can say is just we got lucky only three houses were burned but it could have been a lot worse.”

Others disagree with Rideout saying people who live in the area should have known what they were getting into living so close to Fort Carson.
