Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – More Fire Weather Concerns – 3/25/18
Today: Low clouds will obscure the sun early this morning over the far eastern plains this morning where the air will be cooler today. Mostly sunny and breezy at times elsewhere this afternoon. The air will again warm into the 60s and 70s for the plains today, mainly 40s and 50s over the mountains. We expect wind speeds of 10 to 20 mph with some stronger gusts near 30 mph at times this afternoon. The combination of warmth, wind, and dry conditions will again lead to conditions becoming favorable for the spread of wildfires over much of southern Colorado this afternoon, so a Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the area.
Tonight: Partly cloudy with decreasing wind. Low temperatures will fall into the 30s to near 40s for the plains, 20s to lower 30s over the mountains.
Extended: Monday will be cooler, but for much of the day probably dry. Temperatures will reach the 50s to near 60 for the plains, mainly 40s over the mountains, but the air should start to cool from north to south late in the day. Scattered rain and snow showers should develop over and near the mountains late Monday, and for some areas a little thunder may be heard. Starting Monday night a widespread area of precipitation looks to slide south across the area. What will start as a mixture of rain and snow will likely changeover to all snow along and west of I-25 Monday night, and areas of heavy snow appear possible Monday night on the higher terrain. After a brief break from precipitation, a weaker system may bring scattered rain and snow showers back to mainly northern parts of the area late Wednesday through early Thursday. Friday looks dry & cool. The following weekend looks windy and much warmer with fire weather likely becoming a concern again.
