Fire danger this weekend – 3/24/18

TONIGHT: Our skies will be mostly clear through the overnight and winds won’t be as gusty. Lows cool into the 30s across the lower elevations. 20s will be felt in the high country and our mountain cities.

EXTENDED: We will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Sunday. Winds pick up once again so look for gusts into the low and mid 30s (especially in places through Pueblo and south). That and dry fuels mean Red Flag warnings are out through Pueblo, Walsenburg, Trinidad, Alamosa and east to Springfield. It will be a warm day, with highs in the 60s and 70s, 50s for our mountain cities. We will be a bit cooler on Monday with highs only in the 40s, 50s and 60s. By the evening, an area of low pressure will be moving in. This increases the winds and brings a rain and snow mix to the area following the late day commute. As temperatures cool, this will transition to all snow through the overnight and into Tuesday. Snow looks like it could be heavy at times so this could certainly create some travel headaches through the overnight and into Tuesday morning. Accumulation looks like a good possibility, but it is too early to nail down specifics. By Wednesday and Thursday, another system moves in. This one won’t be a strong, but will still bring the area scattered rain and snow showers.
