Former Mexican cop gets 72 years for sexual assault of Colorado woman

A Mexican national in Colorado illegally was sentenced to 72 years in prison Wednesday for raping a woman in Aurora in front of her one-year-old son in 2016.

Ricardo Corral-Venegas, 27, will be deported back to Mexico if he outlives his sentence, but before the 2016 sexual assault that led to this conviction, he was accused of multiple sexual assaults in his native country, according to KDVR.

Corral-Venegas randomly rang a doorbell at an Aurora apartment complex and forced his way into a woman’s apartment on Oct. 4, 2016. He threatened her at knifepoint and told her to put down her son before raping her. He then threatened to kill her if she called police.

Another woman at the same apartment complex reported that Corral-Venegas tried to force his way into her apartment just a few days later, but she was able to shut the door before he got inside, according to KDVR.

Aurora detectives later learned that Corral-Venegas was a former police officer who was forced to quit. He was living in the U.S. illegally when he was arrested.

Detectives found out that Corral-Venegas is suspected of five sexual assaults in Mexico, including one involving a 14-year-old girl.
