Colorado Springs police identify suspect who shot 13 vehicles with B.B. gun

Colorado Springs police say they’ve identified a suspect who used a B.B. gun to shoot out windows of 13 vehicles last November in a neighborhood near North Academy Blvd. and Flintridge Dr.

James Joseph Gile, 40, is wanted for a felony count of criminal mischief, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. His location isn’t known, but he’s not considered a threat to the community.

CSPD said they were called to the 4500 block of Misty Drive for a report of a burglary on Nov. 21, but they only found the windows of a vehicle shot out. That night, police found a total of 13 vehicles that were damaged in the same way.

But several of the victims had personal surveillance video systems and turned the recordings over to police. Detectives were able to identify a suspect vehicle and the person responsible. Over the course of a few months, detectives worked to identify the suspect as Gile.

Police didn’t specifically ask for the public’s help in finding him, but advised that his hair may be longer than what is shown in his old mugshot.

It’s not known if Gile is connected to any other instances of car vandalism.
