United Airlines halts PetSafe travel program amid controversy

United Airlines says it’s putting a stop to the shipping of unaccompanied pets on its flights.

The airline posted on its website, effective immediately, it will stop accepting new reservations for its PetSafe program, but it will honor any reservations made through March 20.

The suspension does not affect pets accompanied by passengers in the cabin.

United’s website says the company is conducting a thorough and systematic review of their program.

“We are taking this voluntary action to conduct a thorough and systematic review of our PetSafe program and make improvements that will ensure the best possible experience for our customers and their pets. We expect to complete our review by May 1, 2018. “- United Airlines

The news comes after a French bulldog was found dead last week after a flight attendant told its owner that it needed to be put in the overhead luggage bin.

A few days later, a dog that was supposed to go to Kansas was mistakenly shipped to Japan.
