Weekend death of El Paso County child being investigated as accidental drowning
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that it is investigating the disappearance and death of a child over the weekend as an accidental drowning.
Sherif’s Office officials said despite medical treatment, Nain Dominguez, 2, died at a hospital.
It’s unclear exactly what exactly happened to him in the time he was missing.
According to one report, a neighbor said Nain’s shoes were found in Fountain Creek, which flows through the Stratmoor Valley Trailhead, south of Colorado Springs, where Nain disappeared late Saturday evening.
That report, along with the cancellation of an Amber Alert issued Saturday night and no one being arrested, suggested the possibility that Nain’s death was accidental.
However, the case remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office had not responded to requests for information from KRDO NewsChannel 13 as of noon Monday.
Earlier reports from the Sheriff’s Office that indicated Nain may have been abducted, and that a white van was being sought as a suspicious vehicle in the case, turned out to be false.
Some neighbors went to the park Monday, saying they were sorry about Nain’s death but not worried about safety there.
Other neighbors said the creek is too easy for children to reach from the park and that a fence should be installed to limit access.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help Nain’s family with funeral expenses.
