Weather alert morning – 03/19/18

Today: We have a weather alert in effect this morning! This is due to our snowy and slick roads into northern El Paso and Teller Counties and our gusty conditions. A trace to a few inches of snow have accumulated overnight in those areas, so use caution on the roads! Beyond that, we’re tracking strong gusts this morning. We’ll have sustained winds into the 20s today with gusts into the 30s! Winds should become slightly lighter this afternoon and tonight. While we have a small chance of seeing showers redeveloping over the high country and into the higher elevations of the Pikes Peak region this afternoon and evening, most stay dry. Highs will be cooler, only reaching the 40s and 50s in the lower elevations with the 30s for the local mountains.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy skies and calmer winds are expected overnight. Lows drop to the teens and 20s.

Extended: Temperatures warm up the next several days. Highs could soar to the upper 70s and lower 80s in the eastern plains by Thursday! A ridge of high pressure will build through Thursday, allowing for us to experience quieter and warmer weather. By the end of the week and into this upcoming weekend, it will be gusty once again! There will be some times of mountain snow and then fire danger in the lower elevations. Stay with your StormTracker 13 weather team for the latest!
