Critical fire danger today – 3/15/18

TODAY: We will start the day off with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies. As we go through the afternoon, red flag warnings will be in place through Pueblo, Canon City and the Eastern Plains. Low relative humidity, wind gusts into the 40s (wind alert level 1) and dry vegetation will create critical fire danger today. Please practice fire prevention today, as fire could spread rapidly. Highs will warm to the 60s and 70s today.

TONIGHT: An area of low pressure moves in this evening. That is why we are seeing the increasing clouds and gusty winds today. This will also serve as the source of a few showers after 5PM tonight. Dry air at the surface should prevent any significant shower activity. A few are likely on the Palmer Divide, Eastern Plains and Mountain cities. Otherwise, just look for sprinkles! Accumulating snow will be contained to the Continental Divide.

EXTENDED: Another day of fire danger is possible tomorrow, so a fire weather watch is in place for everyone through the duration of Friday. Models are pointing toward wind gusts into the 50s for tomorrow, so stay tuned for updates on that. A wind alert level 1 is in place right now but could be upgraded to a level 2. Another front moves Sunday into the overnight on Monday. Snow looks possible, so stay with the StormTracker 13 Weather Team as we fine tune the forecast!
