Juvenile with gun near Colorado Springs high school prompts lockout

Harrison High School in Colorado Springs was put on a lockout after a runaway juvenile showed a student a gun in a backpack near the school grounds Wednesday morning.

According to District Two, the student reported that incident to administrators and the school was put on lockdown while Colorado Springs police responded to the scene.

The juvenile was found by officers and was taken into custody. His identity wasn’t released and it’s not clear if he was charged.

Students and staff weren’t threatened, the district said, and the school continued to operate normally. The district said a lockout means the school’s perimeter is secured and no one can get in or out. It’s less strict than a lockdown, which forces students to stay in classrooms with lights off.

CSPD is investigating the incident.
