Colorado Springs man dies in crash on CO-83

Crews responded to a fatal accident early Tuesday morning.

The single-car crash happened east of Monument on CO-83 near Walden Way sometime between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

According to Colorado State Patrol, a 1996 Ford E250 van was headed south on CO-83 when it drifted off the road and crashed into a delineator post. The 29-year-old driver from Colorado Springs veered the van left, causing it to travel across 83, off the road, and into an embankment.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The road remained open, but there were some minor slowdowns due to the police presence.
