Nam & Eggs – A Case for Keenum

It’s time for another serving of Nam and Eggs. I am going to make a Case for Keenum. NFL free agency is all about supply and demand.

Kirk Cousins is the top free agent quarterback available, he’s the quarterback that most of Broncos Country wanted but John Elway with his keen sense, didn’t want to back the armored truck up for Cousins. Cousins did however, find someone who will dump a lot money on his doorstep. The Minnesota Vikings. Cousins is about to get paid. eighty four million dollars in guaranteed money so if after a yer, if the Vikings feel, well he’s not our guy. It doesn’t matter because they are stuck with him.

Here’s why most quarterback are overvalued. Tell me what has Cousins done? Sure, he’s a good quarterback, who has never won a Super Bowl or even a playoff game. What I am trying to say is, he is no Drew Brees. Back to supply and demand. In the NFL good quarterbacks are rare and are in high demand.

In the case of Case Keenum and the Broncos, the deal is ideal. It’s for two years and if after year one it doesn’t workout they aren’t on the hook for another 18 mil. There are a couple of things I like about Keenum. He’s tough, he will hang in the pocket to complete a pass. He is athletic. You can run a little read option with him. He loves feasting on opposing defense and sitting in the end zone feasting with his teammates, after they score a touchdown. He also loves a good game of duck, duck, goose. We all remember the Miracle in Minnesota during the playoffs. During that game winning drive Keenum played fearless. He wasn’t afraid of the moment. By the way he beat Drew Brees in that playoff game.

I also think he will be a good mentor for Paxton Lynch, who like Keenum is athletic and like Keenum struggled during the infancy period of his career.

Now, everyone believes the Broncos will also draft a quarterback with the 5th overall pick in the NFL draft. I’m going to say there is a 75 percent chance that won’t happen. Unless, they fall in love with Baker Mayfield or Josh Rosen at their pro days this week. So Broncos fans get off of John Elway’s case or least wait until the season starts in September.
