Grass fire breaks out at Fountain Creek in Pueblo

While several emergency crews battled a blaze in Pueblo Mountain Park Monday, another grass fire broke out inside the city of Pueblo at Fountain Creek.

Flames crawled up trees near the riverbed next to Jerry Murphy Road as onlookers took pictures at about 4:45 p.m. The fire started at about 4 p.m.

Firefighters were on scene to contain the perimeter and douse the flames. No injuries were reported, but there was at least one building nearby.

By about 5:05 p.m., most of the flames had been extinguished while smoldering piles of wood continued to put out smoke.

Firefighters said the lack of wind helped them extinguish the blaze quickly; about seven acres burned.
