Pikes Peak National Cemetery just months away from completion

The Pikes Peak National Cemetery is only months away from becoming a reality after 20 years of planning.

Two years ago, the Veterans Administration bought 374 acres east of the airport near the intersection of Marksheffel and Drennan Roads.

We checked in with the director of the Cemetery on Wednesday for an update on the project’s progress.

“So what you’re seeing in the background is phase one of the construction of Pikes Peak National Cemetery. The phase is broken down into two different parts. Part one is like the early turnover and that part will be done in the fall of 2018. And then the entire phase one will be completed in the fall of 2019,” said Paul Lagrange, cemetery director.

It’s estimated the cemetery will cost $36 million to build.
