Pueblo Zoo hopeful for Pallas pregnancy
Zookeepers at the Pueblo Zoo are crossing their fingers for a rare cat birth.
Anya, a Pallas cat who’s lived at the Pueblo Zoo for about five years has never had a litter but she’s being courted pretty heavily by fellow Pallas, Mushdog.
Zookeepers say he lays on the charm nightly but Anya rarely accepts it.
“I mean, I wouldn’t say necessarily that I see a love connection. I think he loves her and she tolerates him,” laughed Katie Glatfelter, Section Keeper at the Pueblo Zoo.
Pallas cats do have trouble breeding in captivity but there is a backup plan. Staff may try artificial insemination in the spring.
No other pregnancies are known at the zoo but keepers are also hopeful for a red panda cub.
