McCaffrey brothers help save man who fell 25 feet in Castle Rock

The sons of former Broncos player Ed McCaffery are being called heroes after they stepped in to help save the life of a 72-year-old who fell while hiking the Castle Rock trail over the weekend.

Dan Smoker, Sr., 72, was coming down from the top of the rock with his 13-year-old grandson, Eli Smoker, on Saturday when he fell around 25 feet.

According to KDVR, a group of people including Max, Christian, Dylan, and Luke McCaffrey joined together to help get Dan to safety and to comfort Eli.

“Michael Mann, [Christian McCaffrey] and [Max McCaffrey] are great football players, but even better humans. Yesterday, they helped save my dads life after he fell off of Castle Rock,” Dan Smoker, Jr., tweeted. “Because of [them] and a few other amazing folks, my 13-year-old son isn’t telling a story about how he went on a hike with his grandpa and his grandpa died. He’s telling a story of strength, hope, and human goodness.”

Dan was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and is currently in the ICU.

The McCaffrey brothers did pay the Smokers a visit at the hospital. Christian McCaffrey tweeted:

“I know where Eli gets his strength. Watched Dan Sr. fight with everything he has and I know he will continue to do so! We’re praying for you guys!”
