Wife of slain El Paso County deputy asking for more respect for law enforcement

The wife of the El Paso County deputy who was shot and killed at the beginning of February made a public statement on Thursday.

Rachael Flick, the wife of fallen Deputy Micah Flick, spoke to the media on Thursday afternoon to talk about how their family is doing three weeks after her husband was killed in the line of duty.

“We are still moving through life hour by hour,” said Rachael. Micah was an amazing Dad. That will never be filled. They are hurting, they are hurting.”She is speaking about her 7-year-old twins Eliana and Levi, whose lives were changed forever on February 5.

“When they got there, I pulled them in and told them that Daddy wasn’t with us anymore.”

Deputy Flick died in a shootout while officers attempted to arrest an auto theft suspect at the Murray Hills Apartments in east Colorado Springs.

And on Thursday, Rachael had a big message for the community, and that is to respect law enforcement. She expressed concern about the current tension in today’s society and how she wants to see a change.

“Not knowing how to interact with police…everyone should have the opportunity to go on a ride-along,” she explained. “It opened up a respect and empathy for what he did.”

Rachael also had one more request; for everyone to remember Micah as a man of integrity.
