Texas college baseball coach fired after saying no to Colorado student-athletes

A Texas college baseball coach is fired after he denied a recruit from Colorado, claiming players from Colorado have “trouble passing” a drug test.

The Texas Wesleyan University Baseball Coach Mike Jeffcoat sent an email to an Aurora teenager and said the teen can “thank your liberal politicians.” Jeffcoat doesn’t outright say it, but he’s referring to Colorado’s legalized recreational marijuana.

According to KDVR, the university fired Jeffcoat for NAIA violations and because of comments made in an email. The university said in a statement that it doesn’t condone discrimination, including on the basis of the “political legislation of one’s home state.”

Jeffcoat had been with TWU since 2002 and was the program’s all-time leader in coaching wins.
