Colorado Springs teen to serve up to 28 years for murder of liquor store owner

A Colorado Springs teen was sentenced to serve up to 28 years in Department of Corrections Tuesday morning. The sentence will be suspended if he successfully completes 7 years at Department of Youth Services.

The sentencing of Isaiah Trujillo comes after he was charged with the murder of Donat Herr, the owner of Empire Wine & Liquors off N. Academy in Colorado Springs.

Trujillo’s father, Michael spoke in court during the sentencing asking the court for mercy. Trujillo declined to speak or address the judge.

Throughout the sentencing Trujillo’s rough upbringing and family life were referenced by both the prosecutors and defendants.

Back in November a 13-year-old was sentenced to 6 and a half years at the Department of Youth Services also in connection to Herr’s murder.

Phinehas Daniels pleaded guilty to second degree murder and will be sentenced in May.
