Widefield student charged with felony for school threat

A student at Widefield High School was arrested Monday and charged with a felony for making a threat against the school.

The student’s name wasn’t released, but he was charged with class-six felony inciting destruction of life or property. The threat was verbal and was made last Wednesday, but no other details were given.

This follows an incident at Peyton High School that saw two juveniles arrested and charged with the same felony. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said these threats may normally result in misdemeanor charges, but that the office makes that decision on a case-by-case basis.

Depending on the severity, the sheriff’s office says the punishment will match the crime.

Officials also say they hope that people will see that these threats are being taken seriously, and discourage someone from choosing a similar path.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the threat is still under investigation.
