Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Blustery – 2/24/18

Today: Bands of snow overnight may have whitened a few roadways, or at least led to some icy spots on bridges and overpasses for areas between Colorado Springs and Pueblo, as well as for some pockets over the plains east of both Colorado Springs & Pueblo. Areas of low cloud cover and patchy fog will break up this morning, first over the higher terrain, and eventually over low lying areas. Mostly sunny this afternoon and breezy to windy at times with high temperatures in the 30s and 40s for the plains, 20s to lower 30s over our local mountain areas. Scattered snow showers will continue off and on through the day over the high country where some passes will remain slick.

Tonight: Becoming partly cloudy with some areas of wind over and near the mountains. Snow will increase in intensity over the high country overnight. Chilly with low temperatures in the teens for most areas, but some low lying areas and mountain valleys may fall into the single digits.

Extended: A weak wave will bring more snow to the high country through early Sunday. While we don’t expect any significant precipitation from this system at lower elevations, we couldn’t rule out some flurries or brief snow showers over and near the mountains on Sunday under a partly cloudy sky. Temperatures will remain cool on Sunday, and the wind will continue to be noticeable with highs only in the 30s and 40s for the plains, 20s and 30s for the mountains. We should warm some and remain dry early next week, but we’ll continue to experience periods of wind with occasionally strong gusts over and near the mountains. The next cold front should arrive on Wednesday with just a slight chance for scattered snow showers. Still chilly on Thursday, particularly in the morning as it appears some areas might have some low clouds. The air should become warmer for everyone Friday into Saturday, but it may still be breezy to windy at times.
