Local father daughter dance honors Deputy Micah Flick

It was a night to remember for hundreds of fathers and daughters who gathered at the 21st annual A Daughters Heart event in Colorado Springs.

The two-night event kicked off Friday night. A Daughters Heart founder and president Renee Behr says a total of 1800 people are expected to attend the dance.

For many dads and daughters, it was their first time. Others have been going for years. Cassidy Olsen who went with her sister and father says, “This is actually my 14th year and it’s my sisters 19th.”

It’s one night a year where families can spend real quality time together and also have some fun. “It means the world to me for sure,” Olsen says, ” It’s the day I look forward to all year.”

What makes this dance different than the others is that it was to also honor fallen El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy Micah Flick who had a daughter of his own. Behr says, ” We have 50 attendees tonight from the Colorado Springs Police Department and El Paso County with their daughters. But, what’s really cool about it is that the community came together and they paid for it so they were able to come here with their daughters.”

For Deputy William Webster and his daughter Victoria, it means a lot to him, his daughter, and law enforcement officers. Webster says, “It shows our loved ones that we care about them and it’s good to have this type of organization to be able to come out and enjoy each other.”

There was also a silent auction and all the funds from that will go to the Flick family.
