Couple busted for 2 large marijuana grows in El Paso County

A welfare check in a neighborhood on the north side of Colorado Springs led to the bust of two large marijuana grows in El Paso County on Wednesday.

The Colorado Springs Police Department went out to a home in the 2400 block of Sinton Road at around 11 a.m. as a follow-up to an incident on February 4 where the Department got reports of shots fired from the home.

While searching the property on Wednesday, officers found 352 marijuana plants, 1300 cloned marijuana plants and 33 pounds of refined marijuana that was packaged for distribution in a converted oversized two-car garage and inside the home.

This investigation led officers to a mobile home in the 8100 block of Piute Road which is located within unincorporated El Paso County. A search warrant resulted in the discovery of 21 large marijuana plants and over 6 pounds of refined marijuana that was packaged for distribution.

Katia Sanchez and Jose Cala Calvo were arrested at the home off Sinton Road and charged with felony cultivation and distribution. CSPD has not released a photo of Jose Cala Calvo.
