Ex-deputy chief investigator of Pueblo Co. DA’s office arrested on numerous charges

The former deputy chief investigator of the Pueblo County District Attorney’s office has been arrested on numerous charges including official misconduct and misuse of official information, according to our partners at The Pueblo Chieftain.

The Chieftain obtained records stating that Charles “Chuck” Widup, 69, was indicted and arrested on January 29 and appeared in court on February 2. Soon after, he was released on a $50,000 bond.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred in 2016 and 2017, during his time serving the DA’s Office.

According to The Chieftain, the indictment is in Denver District Court, a state court, and appears to have been obtained by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, which is based in Denver.

Records state that the alleged crimes are as follows:

Pattern of racketeering Professional gambling Engaging in criminal usury (Usury is charging more than the maximum interest rate allowed by law.) Attempt to influence a public servant Misuse of official information Official misconduct Computer crime-unauthorized access

Widup began working for the DA’s Office in 2013.
