Strong winds with fire danger – 02/18/18

Today: Buckle up for incredibly powerful gusts today. In fact, we could record some gusts between 55-65 mph in the lower elevations, gusting to the 70s and 80s in the local mountains! We have High Wind Warnings in effect this morning for the Pikes Peak Region, Sangres and Huerfano County. There are also Red Flag Warnings starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. in the lower elevations. Use extreme caution and avoid any outdoor burning! We’ll stick with mostly sunny skies today and temperatures reaching the 60s and 70s.

Tonight: It could still be a bit breezy overnight. We’ll have mostly clear skies into early tomorrow morning. Lows drop to the 20s and 30s.

Extended: Late Monday into Tuesday, we have the chance for some rain and snow developing across the area. Temperatures drop drastically into Tuesday. Highs will only reach the 20s and 30s. Snow accumulations don’t look very impressive at all; however, there could be some slick spots. We’ll watch for that and keep you posted on the latest. Finally, we have the possibility for more strong gusts in southern Colorado the next few days. Stick with us!
