State High School wrestling – quarterfinal matches

A right to wrestle in tonight’s semi-finals on the line, Widefield’s Elijah Whately earned a spot at 145 pounds with an 8-5 victory. At 160 pounds, Air Academy’s Brady Badwound, what a name for a wrestler! Wins in a bloodbath 6-4 to make his first state semi-final,”I started getting his mind all twisted when I was being the aggressor and he wasn’t used to that. I let him know who I am and let this whole tournament know who I am,” says Badwound.

At 182 pounds, Pine Creek’s Garrett Niel moved onto the semi-finals, he’s letting loose, hoping a relaxed attitude helps avenge a loss in the semi’s last year,”My diet’s not very good, I might have a soda. We gotta wrestle still, there’s two matches left in this tournament at least. Every dog has it’s day, I learned that last year,” says the Pine Creek senior.

You wanna talk about dogs. I give you Dominick Fini of Mesa Ridge, after winning by pin at 220 pounds, Fini likes to think of himself more like a shark in deep water, “I got a bulls-eye on my back, everybody’s coming for me. I just have to, like in boxing I kinda have to dodge and evade those big shots early. Then take them into deep-water where I’m comfortable and take over from there,” says Fini.
