Colorado Springs District 11 superintendent retiring this summer

Colorado Springs School District 11 Superintendent Dr. Nicholas Gledich will be retiring at the end of this school year, the district announced Thursday.

Gledich, who was hired to lead District 11 in May 2009, is stepping down after a 45-year career in the education field, saying his family decided it’s time to begin a new chapter in their lives.

Since his hire, Gledich oversaw the creation of the Roy J. Wasson Academic Campus, the passing of a $42 million mill levy override, and numerous recognitions and honors across the district’s schools, according to a news release.

“I have appreciated the challenges and opportunities afforded me,” Gledich said in a statement. “Public education is important to me. I truly believe it is the cornerstone of our country.”

Gledich’s last day with the district will be June 30.
