New task force in Colorado Springs: No Excuse for Abuse

There’s a new resource for victims of domestic and sexual violence in Colorado Springs. TESSA, a safe house program and service center announced its new community task force, No Excuse for Abuse. On average, police in Colorado Springs respond to 30 to 40 domestic violence incidents a day. In an effort to help, the task force developed new strategies and initiatives to end the violence. The four part program includes public education and youth outreach. Mayor John Suthers is the co-chair of the task force and says this is a first step in empowering survivors.

“As much work has been done there are still women out there that don’t know the resources available. There are still folks that need to be educated on the problem; look for the warning signs.”

“Love is respect and unfortunately too many in our community do not feel safe, and love, and respect in their own homes. And we know because of the calls we get and because of the calls law enforcement gets because of who we see in hospitals, we know it’s a ramped problem,” says TESSA’s executive director SherryLynn Boyles.
