Officer-involved shooting near Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs

The suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Colorado Springs had to be taken to the hospital on Friday night.

The shooting happened in the 2400 block of North Cascade close to Penrose Hospital near downtown Colorado Springs at around 6 p.m.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says it was investigating a domestic violence report at a home at Cascade and Van Buren when things got out of hand.

Fortunately, no officers were injured. The suspect was, at last report, in stable condition.

Cascade Avenue at E. Jackson Street was still shut down as of 8:30 p.m. The Colorado Springs Police Department is on priority dispatch status. Anyone with an emergency should call 911, and those with non-emergency issues should wait to call CSPD until it returns to normal operations.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation and the officer who shot the suspect is on paid administrative leave.
