Law enforcement comfort dog “ready to serve” for funeral of El Paso Co. deputy

An organization that travels all over the U.S. to comfort the loved ones of fallen officers is making a stop at the funeral for Deputy Micah Flick on Saturday.

Golden Missions of America have provided a helping paw to those mourning the death of Officers Jose Vega and Lesley Zerebny at the Palm Springs California Police Headquarters in October of 2016 as well as made the journey to Dallas, Texas in July of 2016 to comfort those who survived the shooting that ended with five dead officers.

Now, Daniel Sievert and his golden retriever Emerson will travel from San Marcos, Texas to be at Deputy Flick’s funeral on Saturday to provide support for anyone needing it.

Sievert’s team used to include a second golden retriever Jake, but he passed in January. That’s not stopping the team from sticking to their mission of “delivering joy, love and HOPE.”

On Thursday night, Sievert said to KRDO NewsChannel 13, “Getting ready to serve.”

The service will be held at New Life Church on Voyager Parkway starting at 1 p.m. and is open to the public. It will be followed by a procession that will begin from the church and will end at Meridian Road.
