Student brings unloaded gun to Colorado Springs elementary school

A young student was cited by Colorado Springs police after bringing an unloaded handgun to Mountain View Elementary School Monday.

Police say the student, whose identity will not be released, took the gun from home to show off to friends. The gun wasn’t used to threaten anybody.

School security staff were able to take the handgun from the student before a school resource officer arrived, police reported. The gun was taken as evidence and the student was taken into custody before being cited.

The student’s parents weren’t aware the gun was taken, police said.
