Neighbors describe panic, fear in moments after deputy shooting in Colorado Springs

Neighbors living in the Murray Hills Apartments in Colorado Springs are piecing together the moments following a shooting that killed a deputy and injured three officers on Monday afternoon.

El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick was killed in a shootout following an auto-theft investigation. The suspect, who hasn’t been identified yet, was also killed. The other officers are recovering from their injuries.

“It’s terrifying,” said Amanda Hunt, a witness to the shooting. “You don’t know what’s going on.”

Hunt was one of the dozens of people anxiously waiting beside the crime scene tape to get back home.

“I was with my daughter, and we couldn’t get back home,” Hunt said.

Chris Bachtell lives just feet away from where the suspect was shooting.

“It was so scary,” he said. “It literally happened right outside our front door.”

Jacy Jason, another witness living nearby, described the panic he felt.

“We walked out, cops were everywhere, then gunshots, and the police started telling us to get inside,” Jason said.

Neighbors told us they plan on starting a memorial at the scene.
