Eyewitness says he was 20 feet from shooting in Colorado Springs

“It went down right in front of me, maybe 20 feet in front me.” Michael DeRossett hid under a stairwell while shots fired out on the corner of Galley Road and Murray Boulevard. He’s a resident at Murray Hill Apartments. He and other neighbors walked out when they heard gunshots.

That’s when they saw police in a struggle with a suspect. DeRossett says, “Walking by the stairs, there’s sort of a lean window you can look out when you walk by. As I was approaching the window, I heard a couple pops, rapid-fire like two or three shots. And, as I turned to the window to look out I saw a bunch of people scattering and then moving in on one guy.”

DeRossett said he moved to Colorado in hopes of getting away from violence.

Another nearby resident who lives in the Emory Hill Apartments let KRDO up on his balcony. He says he came home just after 4:30 p.m. but couldn’t get inside the complex until after 6 p.m.
