Police standoff in Thornton near where Adams Co. deputy was killed

Law enforcement in Adams County is engaged in a standoff in the same area where an Adams County deputy was fatally shot a week before.

Police had a perimeter set up around the 1600 block of East 78th Avenue at 3:30 p.m. This is nearly two miles from where Deputy Heath Gumm was fatally shot while investigating an assault.

FOX31 in Denver reported that neighbors say they heard shots fired. A school nearby is on lock-out and administrators say they do not plan to let students go until authorities give the OK.

Deputy Gumm died in the line of duty at the end of January. He was laid to rest in Lafayette, Colo. earlier in the day on Friday.
