Daniel Nations extradited from Colorado back in Indiana for charges unrelated to Delphi murders

According to RTV6 in Indiana, a man considered a person of interest in the Delphi murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German is back in Indiana to answer to unrelated felony charges.

Daniel Nations waived his extradition rights in Colorado after a felony warrant for failing to register as a sexual violent offender was issued from Johnson County, Indiana.

Those charges are not related to the Delphi investigation.

Nations was in court in El Paso County in January, also on unrelated charges to the Delphi investigation. This comes after Nations threatened at least one person with a hatchet along Mount Herman Road in Monument, Colo. in September of 2017.

A 61-year-old bicyclist named Tim Watkins was fatally shot in the same area as that trail, and it was around the same time Nations was allegedly threatening people.

At this point, investigators have not released any additional information that could connect Nations to that crime.

Nations, did, however, accepted a plea deal and was charged with menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender in El Paso County court. One charge of menacing and a charge of trespassing were dropped.

Nations was given three years supervised probation for those crimes.

He was going to be released on his own recognizance, but then the sheriff’s office found a warrant from Johnson County.

Daniel Nations’ criminal past

Nations arrived at the Johnson County Jail as of Sunday morning, according to Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox.

Investigators in Colorado contacted Indiana State Police after receiving multiple tips comparing Nations’ mugshot to the sketch of the Delphi killer.

Besides possible similarities in his appearance to the police sketch of the Delphi killer, a number of other coincidences drew investigators toward Nations.

He is a registered sex offender, was driving with expired Indiana plates when he was arrested in Colorado and he was living in Indiana at the time Libby and Abby were murdered.

Nations was named a “person of interest” in the case but was never officially charged in connection with the crimes. Indiana State Police said in October 2017 that Nations was ‘neither included nor excluded’ as a suspect.
