We have it! Plenty of Tamiflu in Colorado Springs

While pharmacies across the U.S. have reported shortages of Tamiflu, the medicine prescribed to ease flu symptoms, we’re not seeing the same trend in Colorado Springs.

Nine Colorado Springs pharmacies we contacted say they haven’t run out of Tamiflu.

Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Colorado Ave. is the only location that reported having one box left. Over the phone, an employee said, “it’s been flying off the shelves.”

Ivywild Pharmacy says they have five boxes left but have already ordered more from their distributor, McKesson.

Shannon Bethel, owner of Ivywild says, “So far, we’ve been lucky. McKesson has not run out and we’ve been able to order it as we need it … We’ve got a lot more this year with this flu outbreak being a lot worse this year.”

“It’s good to know that there is something we can take that isn’t over the counter,” said Natasha Hill, a mother picking shopping at Ivywild.

Another big seller for Ivywild this flu season is hand sanitizer. Bethel says people are buying bottles of it to prevent themselves from getting the flu.

Pharmacists we spoke to also said it’s not too late to get your flu shot. While not 100-percent effective this season, Bethel says it protects someone more than if they don’t get the shot at all.
