National immigration activist speaks to Colorado Springs DREAMers
A day after the State of the Union Address, the fate of 1.8 million undocumented immigrants remains unknown. Thousands of so-called DREAMers call Southern Colorado ‘home’ and on Wednesday, a national immigration activist arrived in town to speak to them.
Deyanira Aldana is a DACA recipient and a national immigration activist for the youth led organization United We Dream. Thursday evening, she’s speaking at Colorado College. Ahead of her presentation, Aldana told KRDO she hoping to provide resources for DACA recipients in Colorado Springs who are hopeful for citizenship. Aldana says, President Trump’s enforcement on immigration gives more reason to empower DREAMers who are fighting for a Dream Act.
“I fight for immigrant rights but there are a lot of other issues that our communities face especially communities of color. And my purpose for [Thursday’s presentation] is to make sure people who come, leave with the tools that they need to be able to be successful in whatever change they want to create,” says Deyanira Aldana.
The presentation, Stand Up, Fight Back: The Fight for a Dream Act with Deyanira Aldana will take place at the Bemis Great Hall on the Colorado College campus at 7 p.m.
