Colorado lawmakers react to the State of the Union Address

President Donald Trump gave his first State of the Union Address Tuesday night. Right after the speech, Colorado lawmakers took to the web to voice their opinions from both sides of the isle.

Senator Cory Gardner released a video statement saying in part, “I applaud the President’s call for unity tonight. It’s time that we come together as a country, and for Democrats and Republicans to work together on issues to achieve a compromise for Dreamers and make needed investments to our nation’s crumbling infrastructure.”

Representative Doug Lamborn also put out a video response to the State of the Union saying in part, “I just have a new hope and belief in America because he believes in America. He believes in the American people and all his policies.”

Across the isle, the President’s plea for bipartisanship sounded like an achievable idea to some but wasn’t even touched upon for others.

In a statement, Governor John Hickelooper said in part, “If the president is sincere in supporting these goals and truly supports criminal justice reform, and the job retaining, we can work together.”

Democratic Senator Michael Bennet said in part, “only this president could make a call for unity sound so divisive,”

And democratic representative Ed Pearlmutter said, ” Tonight I was hoping to hear a more unifying message and a commitment to bipartisan cooperation. But unfortunately, I heard neither.”
