Otero County grass fire grows to at least 500 acres

A grass fire in Otero County burned at least 1,000 acres on Wednesday, and multiple agencies were called to contain the blaze.

It started early Wednesday afternoon near County Road 25 and Highway 266, according to the Otero County Sheriff’s Office.

As of just before 5 p.m., the fire was almost completely contained and crews were beginning the mop-up process.
