Warning signs of pot operations often visible in Colorado neighborhoods

With the recent grow operation busts in Falcon, neighbors say they have been told what to look out for if they think an illegal pot grow is happening in their neighborhood.

Gary Curry lives in the neighborhood where El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies raided a home on Wednesday where they seized more than 170 marijuana plants and two weapons. However, this is not the first time deputies have found grow operations in the neighborhood, “five right here on this one block,” says Curry. With all the busts, people are worried about the dangers those houses bring. Curry says, “We are not happy about it. We have children and small grandchildren that come here.”

Lt. Bill Huffor with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says there are 600 suspected grow houses in the county. He says there are things residents can look out for if they think a grow operation is happening in their neighborhood. The first is to look out for cars with out of state license plates or with no license plates at all. They also say homes that have lights on during unusual hours is another sign. Finally, if people smell marijuana in their neighborhood, they are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office.
