Colorado Springs police arrest man for spree of roommate thefts

Colorado Springs police say they’ve arrested the 23-year-old man accused of stealing from roommates he found on Craigslist nearly a dozen times.

Police had sought Tyshawn Gayle earlier this month for the series of crimes. The department announced on Monday that he was in custody thanks to tips from the public.

Gayle is accused of using the classifieds website Craigslist to answer advertisements for roommates. He would then move in with the victim and stay for about a month. CSPD hasn’t said when the thefts occurred.

Police say Gayle would then move out while the victim was at work and steal the victim’s cash and possessions. Gayle is also accused of stealing a car.

While less than five victims were initially identified, CSPD says more victims came forward, bringing the total to 10.

Gayle’s charges haven’t been released at this time, but he had two felony warrants for two cases related to the investigation.
