Ballerina with prosthetic leg performs in Colorado Springs

Gabi Shull has been dancing since she was 3 years old. But her dancing career was threatened when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. “I was just thinking about how I could get through everything so I could continue dancing,” Shull said. Even after a surgery that amputated part of her leg and turned her ankle into a knee joint, Shull hasn’t stopped dancing. On Saturday, she was dancing at a performance at The Colorado Springs School. “She’s phenomenal. To see what she’s overcome, she dances like you would have no idea if it wasn’t for her prosthetic. Her spirit is so captivating and so inspiring,” said Kari Herman, owner of the Synergy Dance Academy. The performance benefitted two organizations dedicated to ending cancer. The Truth 365 and the Zach Sobiech Osteozarcoma Fund.

Shull gave a special dedication to Sobiech as she danced to a song he composed. Shull said because of the support she’s seen from her family and dancing community, she wants to help other people who have cancer. “There are times where it’s hard because you see, like, kids who had the same cancer as you and they didn’t make it,” Shull said.
