Weather Alert Day: Gusty winds ahead of cold front

Today: Highs will reach the 50s and 60s this afternoon ahead of a cold front later today. It will be GUSTY as the cold front rolls through. In fact, we can’t rule out gusts between 30-50 mph! Winds will be tough to pinpoint exactly, but we’ll keep you posted on the latest. Into the early to mid-afternoon, rain could develop in the lower elevations. This could possibly transition to snow during or after the evening commute. Just when the rain converts to snow is uncertain; it depends on the timing of the cold front and temperatures of the incoming system. Snow totals are also dependent on this timing. If snow forms earlier, we could see more snow (even though it will still be light). If it develops later, we won’t see much in the way of accumulation at all. Right now, a trace to 2″ of snow is possible in northern El Paso, Teller and Las Animas Counties. More than a foot of snow is possible along the Continental Divide!

Tonight: Showers wind down. Lows drop to the teens and 20s under mostly cloudy skies. There could be a few slick spots where snow occurs today, so be prepared!

Extended: Temperatures drop tomorrow to the 30s and 40s. We’ll have increasing sunshine on Thursday. A mix of sunshine and clouds is on tap for southern Colorado throughout the rest of your seven day forecast. Right now, it appears as if we’ll stay primarily dry; however, that could change!
