Man pleads guilty to killing brother in Colorado Springs

A man in Colorado Springs pleaded guilty to killing his brother on Tuesday.

Erik Earl Mattyasovsky pleaded guilty to Reckless Manslaughter in the April 2017 death of Brian Mattyasovsky.

Erik told deputies that he and his brother were practicing self-defense techniques using a loaded gun and that the shooting was an accident.

Nearly six months later, Mattyasovsky had another run-in with El Paso County deputies. He initiated a five-hour-long standoff in the 1000 block of Bowstring Road.

The scene forced Lewis-Palmer High School school to be placed on lockout for around an hour. Mattyasovsky eventually surrendered himself.

His sentencing is set for March 6.
