Cold Front Brings Rain and Snow 1-9-18
TONIGHT: Still quiet and mild tonight with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and lows settling in to the 30s. Snow will be ongoing over the mountains.
TOMORROW: WEATHER ALERT DAY: Wednesday starts out mild with increasing cloud cover as a storm system draws closer. This will bring a cold front through the area bringing rain and a rain-snow mix initially. Cold air will move in with the cold front changing rain to snow in places seeing precipitation by late evening. At the same time, winds gusting to 50 mph (especially across the Front Range and Eastern Plains) will likely lead to blowing snow. Accumulations look to be cutting back across the Eastern Plains as it will likely take longer for the changeover to snow to begin. A Trace to 2 inches will be possible. Teller County and northern El Paso County still look on track to see a Trace to 2 inches. 1-2 inches will also be possible south of Canon City and south of Trinidad. The Sangres look to do okay with 3-7+ inches where a Winter Weather Advisory is in place. Stay tuned for adjustments to snow totals as the onset of rain will likely make a big impact.
EXTENDED: Sunshine will return for Thursday with even colder air settling in as highs only climb to the 30s and 40s. Temps then warm a bit more for Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s. Cooler temps then return again for Saturday. The extended forecast looks fairly quiet at this point.
